stepping on broken glass

around the bricks and mortar

crunch and crack of feet

as I head towards you

push past crowds

the screams that scared me

into finding you

but do not deter.

There are reasons

to run or

to stop and stare

at the carnage we reeked upon ourselves

but I only had

to be worth something to you

even as the city tumbled

and we lost everything.

I still loved you.

That's all there was.
