 Posting this again for my current WIP.

"You're throwing me out?!"

"You have a job, you'll manage, I need you out of the house."

Rachel stares at her, she thinks she should've seen this coming and the way her mother's wings start to redden slightly as she argues with her thinks she might not be able to win this one.

"I work in the pub mum, part-time, I don't earn that much."

"Then get more shifts, or a second job. I always managed."

Rachel snorts, her mother married her dad young and dad has money.

Had money.

That's the crux of the matter she thinks. Money. You can't charge fairies you're related to room and board, you can throw them out on the street.

Her mother's wings are bright red now, a colour she remembers well though usually the anger is aimed at her little brother, who still has a few years left before he gets the heave-ho it seems.

"How long do I have?"

Her mother smiles, the wings pale ever so slightly.

"Oh not right away," she says before fluttering out of the room, wings slowly, slowly, turning back to their pink colour.

Rachels stares at the kitchen door for a long time after that.
